We stayed here because we had a baby with us and wanted a separate area to hang out with our friends while she was sleeping. We were blown away at how big the penthouse room was for the price. A massive balcony, 2 bathrooms, a large living area, and a big bedroom. Very impressive location as well.

The Allen was the perfect location for our needs at a reasonable price (by booking early—trying to add on an extra night later was triple the price. So we had to find other arrangements) the only problem we had was that our key card deactivated from being kept in a wallet next to a credit card. Nothing was said about avoiding this at check-in. It resulted in being stuck in the elevator, which could not operate and no one answered when we tried to call the front desk. Eventually, someone else got on the elevator and we got out. The room was a balcony view king. There is also a view from the rooftop, which was nice. It’s a small space but has plenty of storage so you can still walk around. There are about 20 drawers (3 under each side of the bed, more in the night stand, armoire, desk, luggage stand, etc.) The place felt secure. If you have young kids, know that there is lots of weed aroma in the neighborhood due to nearby stores, but that aroma is all over Manhattan these days. Cleaning staff was very helpful and responsive. However, sauna was out of order.

I cannot believe what I paid for this hotel room. First of all the entire hotel is rundown and just weird. Secondly, we were given a room on the first floor, which is right above the lobby and when you walk in the opposite wall to the front door is all mirrors. There are no windows except upon closer inspection. There’s a little crank opening and when you open that you’re looking into the storage closet. I’m not even kidding about this. I went back and asked the front desk if anything could be done and she said there were no rooms available and at this point it was 130 and we would’ve had to wait for an hour and a half, and we really needed to take a nap before we went out for the evening. So we made the best of it, but it’s just a horrible accommodation.

This property was close to our family and made it easy to go back and forth to their apartment. Staff was friendly. We liked having a balcony.

This was an amazing find! The hotel is in the heart of China town and so many cool things near by. The hotel was beautifully charming and clean. I will come here again for sure! My children and I loved it!

Perfect area for a walkable trip. 1st time in New York & The Allen was so accommodating! Rooms were ready on time & last day our flight was at 8:45pm, and they stored all our luggage for us! We were a group of 15, (4 families,) and all stayed together at The Allen. Rooms were all super close. Patricia was absolutely amazing! Thank you for making our stay a great experience!

The Expedia recommends this hotel as "Good for Families" and it is definitely not. We booked two nights and first night there were very loud party in the room adjacent to ours after 10 PM. We complained and management of the hotel asked them to turn music off, but party continued without music with a lot of screaming, walking, throwing something against the wall(?) and smoking weed on the balcony. It was impossible to rest especially with the small child. The management decided to move us to another room instead of dealing with people who had party. The new room did not have a balcony and one of the lights was flickering there so we were not able to use the main lights for the rest of our stay. When we asked to fix it they said that "there is no engineers during the weekend". I definitely do not recommend this hotel to anyone. I don't know why it has "excellent" reviews considering that in addition to all above there are pealing wallpapers, and many other signs of deterioration.
