Room was as advertised, clean and quiet at night. We didn't find it to be too noisy for sleeping. Area was safe and suited our needs for our time in NYC. We will stay again if this area is where we need to be when visiting family.

Liked the amenities and public spaces. They were pleasant and numerous. And the staff were polite and accommodating. Slept like a baby. Nice place to stay.

The hotel did not really have staff. Everything is automated.
From check in to check out. The process was easy however, the food selections in the restaurant were horrible for families.
Seems like this hotel is more for singles and young couples

The hotel facilities and room have many attractive design features -- don't miss a visit to the top floor! Our room with two beds was nicely laid out, seeming larger than it was through use of natural materials, curves, translucent walls, and such, and everything was immaculate. Note that the beds have no headboards, so pillows can skid into the space between the bed and window -- and the platform that the beds are on could be a trip hazard in the dark. The hotel staff were all pleasant but it was clear that the self check-in/check-out had poorly designed software, as almost everyone we saw had problems with it and had to wait for staff assistance. The neighbourhood has some excellent classic delis, an exceptional ice cream store (il laboratorio del gelato), a great Korean restaurant (8282), the Essex Street Market, the New Gallery, and a handy subway stop, so it was enjoyable while calm. I would stay here again.

The hotel at times seemed to focus more on the kids they could bring in for the night to the bars and club rather than the guest. And it’s not a quiet hotel. You can be in bed and it’s late and you can still hear music going. Also the shower has a terrible design with no barrier between the shower and the toilet area so water just covers the floor and you have a wet towel to block it?
Having said all this, I don’t think any of it would deter me from staying there again because the thing that this hotel does best is its location. It is close to everything.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel and will stay here again in the future and also recommend this hotel to my family and friends.
The hotel is in walking distance to popular high street stores in the village which was perfect for me.
While the rooms are quite small, I didn't find this to really be an issue, especially for one person, as in NYC you spend most of your time out and about anyways. Also, if you are looking to chill and relax at the hotel, there are several comfortable and cozy lounges and bars to relax at, so no need to be in your room.
I would have liked if the menus at the hotel restaurants had some vegetarian / vegan options and it would have been nice for the rooms to have robes and slippers. Other than that, my stay was excellent and the staff at the hotel super kind, helpful, welcoming and trustworthy.
I'm looking forward to staying here again next time I visit NYC.

I had read quite a few bad reviews so going to split this into pros and cons based on what I was after. I wanted to stay in a cool location at an independent/artsy hotel, my main priority was cleanliness and comfort.
Pros
Room was clean and had decent body wash
Very cool location and design
Room is compact (small) but was fine for a long weekend. Not ideal if you’re there for longer
Cons
Bed was not too comfortable but was fine for a few nights
Check in and out on the app doesn’t work, or on the iPad so had to get someone from the bar to find staff to help us check in
Perfect for a long weekend and I liked that it was my type of vibe/people. No families/kids running around.
Couldn’t access the igloos on the rooftop unless you have a reservation but I wanted to see if I liked it first.
You will find influencer type people posting on the escalators or laying on the pool
Table.

No hot water at night. Only worked in the morning.
Got woken up all night due to a party in another room nearby. Had to call the front desk and they said they were taking care of it, but nothing changed, they continued to party for hours.
There were kids everywhere in the lobby just there to use the wifi and take up ever space and table, couldn’t find anywhere to work while k was there.

I stayed at the Public hotel for 6 nights.
Hotel is very clean and beautifully decorated from the lobby to the rooms.
However, I will say that for the already hefty price for the room itself and “all access” fee I was expecting better service. The hotel has a self service check-in and check out, with no real reception.
This is in my opinion a great concept, but it was very difficult to get in touch with someone for questions about my final bill, receiving a package or general questions. They say you can send me an email or a text, but nobody responded to me even after 3-4 hours where I finally called their service number to get some answers. The hotel also has a little garden before the entrance which is very nice, but nobody is guarding the entrance and it was often full of noisy kids from the street or homeless people just walking in. I think the hotel is beautiful and nicely located, but for the price I would expect more service or faster response time. There are many design hotels in the same price category that I would probably try next time.
