Thompson Central Park - New York

Great stay with my family.

The property itself is excellent. It is clean, safe, and well-maintained. Room service is excellent. The staff is helpful and professional. The location is great, with Central Park just a few blocks away and Carnegie Hall down the block. However, there are significant problems, as listed below: 1. The shower floors are slippery, especially when wet and soapy. There are no grab bars, either. This makes the showers dangerous. 2. The food prices in their main restaurant are astoundingly high. For example, a simple breakfast for two adults and one child, consisting of simple items like scrambled eggs, a bagel with cream cheese and lox, french toast, coffee and apple juice cost $199.00. 3. The pull-out sofa was very uncomfortable.

Fantastic stay. We loved the hotel and the upper floors lounge on floor 3. The bed was extremely comfortable and our studio suite was a great value for a family of 3 given the proximity to Central Park. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Excelente for families.

This hotel had the potential to be very nice but unfortunately the accommodations has one key element that made it completely unacceptable. We had booked a king suite with a sleep sofa (listed for 3 people) so that my 23 year old daughter could stay with us. We had all three of us on the reservation. But that evening when she went to get in the sofa bed, the huge flaw revealed itself. The sofa bed did not have a mattress. Instead it had some kind of a thing that was basically entirely springs covered in fabric. This was unlike anything I've ever seen in any sofa bed and was absolutely horrific. There was no way anyone, even the smallest child, could sleep on this torture device. I am not exaggerating at all. I have no idea why a bed made only of exposed springs covered in cloth even exists. The next day they did bring in a rollaway, but this meant that our room was so crowded that it was uncomfortable. My daughter actually left and went to stay with a local friend overnight. No hotel should ever book a room for three without actually having an sleep option for the third person. I'm extremely disappointed that they would have done this.

The king suite with pull out couch was perfect for family. Location was great. Room and staff were amazing. Everything was clean.

Arrived at 2pm, room not ready, understandable, checkin 3, waited in lobby. told they would text us when ready, not done. Had go up to desk after 3 and ask. Found all of our stuff was taken off cart, placed on floor. Wasn't given any info on which elevator to use...3 sets in 3 different sections of hotel. walking around carrying all of our stuff just trying to get to room. 2 ice machines in hotel both were out of service. Room was great. No complaints at all. We stayed here 12/30-1/1. Never been to NYC. Also we are aware of the chaos surrounding Times Square on NYE, why we decided to stay near Central Park. At no point and time did the staff let us know that our road would be closed. NO information was given about this on Hotels.com. After the fact we found out happens every year UNACCEPTABLE. WOULD HAVE NEVER PICKED THIS HOTEL FOR THAT REASON. Couldn't get back to our hotel (7pm) kept getting rerouted by police officers, stuck in crowds that didn't move... not by Times Square, the blocks next to our hotel. Me and 2 children were just stuck 3 times just trying to get back to our hotel. Dangerous, unable to move. We had plans to go ice skating in Central Park and to watch fireworks. Unable to get back to hotel We missed our reservation for ice skating and lost $200. Our view was from hotel was police w/ guns of all sizes frisking and searching people who were headed to Times Square. Spent $1400 HOTEL AND HOTELS.COM THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE VACATION RUINED.

Our family of 4 had a great stay and took in all of the NYC sights at Christmas time. Our room was spacious for NY standards and the staff were overly helpful and kind. We ate at the Burger Joint, food was decent and convenient. Location was great for sightseeing, we would definitely stay here again.

Overall, excellent hotel that is great for families and walkable to all of the key areas. Worth the visit
