This is our second trip to the Hotel St. James. We really like the location which is between sixth and seventh on 45th St. It’s about a block to Times Square and three blocks to Bryant Park. The front desk people are great. Joey is very outgoing. They were able to accommodate us early into the room with a small surcharge of $25. The rooms are very good size. There’s also a nice spacious downstairs lobby area for sitting if you have to wait before you leave for the airport. My only gripe is that the beds are completely worn out. I haven’t been there where I didn’t feel like I was thinking into the bed and it’s clear that they are changing them out while we were there. Someone walked out with a mattress that they were probably replacing. The owner is 93 years old hangs out in the lobby periodically. They probably having been any renovations planned or budgeted for at this time. For three days we can live with it. Also, the two bedrooms are doubles at least that’s what I got. It was a tight fit with my wife and I, but we made it work. We were shining the room with another family member. I would also like to see a small refrigerator be placed in the room because they don’t have them.

The front desk staff was very friendly. My room was about what I expected for a 3-star hotel - not fancy but it was fine for me. There was some street noise, which didn’t bother me. But the walls are thin and there was a baby in the room next to me, so I slept with noise-canceling headphones. The only thing I really missed was a small table or desk. The location is great - a block from Times Square and just down the street is a Walgreens/Duane Reade. I would stay here again if I’m back in NYC.

Pretty nice hotel steps from Times Square. It's an adequate room for a night or two. This is an older building, but it has some great character. Everything in the room worked just fine. Pretty big room for NYC standards. We had two adults and two children and we had plenty of space. Walking distance to everything. I would probably stay here again.

This property was a pleasant surprise! Seeing the location on a map is different from reality. We we located centrally to many attractions that are walkable locations. Not a big deal but a critique to room decor-our room could use pictures to tie everything together vs looking like a box. Otherwise, we have NO complaints, and plane to return when we visit again, possibly with even more family. Thank you for a lovely stay!

The pros: Location close to lots of things to do and restaurants. Clean and safe room. Friendly staff, you can store your luggage before check in. Helpful with providing directions to airport via the subway. The cons: not handicapped accessible- front steep 4-5 stairs. We got stuck in the elevator 3 times, had to push alarm and call front desk for help. Internet doesn’t work well at all, nor the television. Hotel room had one easily accessible outlet and one in bathroom. Not counter or sink space, everything kept falling on floor. Paper thin walls, woke up each morning at 6am (on vacation!) to crying baby next door.

Booked this property to share NYC with my family- husband and 2 teens. It was so convenient and we were close to everything. Room was spacious enough for the four of us. Staff were absolutely wonderful, especially Joey; but everyone we interacted with was polite and helpful. Would definitely stay again!

I was very upset by the sheet, it was disgusting. There was someone's hair on the sheets. When they asked to change the bed, the “clean” one also had hair, even a whole clump of hair. I had to sleep in my clothes, it’s a pity that we left a bad impression on the children, they were upset.
