This has been the place my family has stayed at for over 15 years. We know the people there and they are wonderful. The neighborhood is just perfect.

We needed a quiet 1-night place to stay. We try to do "Times Square" things with the kids, but when we end up in the city and can't make the very late night trip back, we look for hotels like the Arthouse Hotel. Nice quiet neighborhood to take a late night walk together. Nice comfortable king bed to sleep in. Nice neighborhood to wake-up to in the morning.
We will be ataying here again!

I’m not sure what qualifies this as a 4 star hotel. The location in the upper west side of manhattan is convenient and it is in a historic building, however the upkeep, amenities, and general design are not what I would consider to be a 4star experience. The hotel has two sets of questionable elevators, the rooms are not well insulated and the bathroom has no heat at all. The guest and bath rooms themselves give more of a high end hostel feel rather than a hotel. The room and bath sizes are very nice for New York and everything appeared well cleaned, it just had no real amenities, dispensers for bath products, angel soft (1ply) tissues and toilet paper, and one towel set per person. The wood counter sliver next to the industrial stainless sink, and the dingy and outdated tub shower were just ok, and I don’t even want to mention the child sized pillows (4 pillows that were smaller than standard). All in all, it was a fine stay but I clearly don’t understand how hotels earn stars because I’d rate it on the same level as a Tru by Hilton. Had your basics but did not try to go above at all. $40 “urban fee” gets you 2 bottles of nestle bottled water and that’s it. Not even a mini fridge in the room, ice bucket in the dingy closet.

The staff was friendly and the bar area was nice. The location was fairly quiet and family friendly. I paid for a superior king room. There was only space for one suitcase. I put mine right next to my bed on the floor and climbed over it. There was barely room to walk around the bed. The bed was horrible. Big dips on each side. On the 3rd day we asked for another room in hopes for a better bed. We were given another superior king 2 doors down which was much bigger with 2 large windows, however the bed was the same. The maid told us that all of the beds were like that. Too bad. We were hurting all week!

The room I stayed in was extremely small, fire alarm was rusted so not sure if that works. Also, I requested a fridge for my baby’s milk and it was molded on the inside. No elevator so limited accessibility. Great location and restaurant next door. Staff is nice. The front office staff apologized for the fridge after I checked out which was nice but that was a hazard so I’m not sure I will be back.

The desk staff was friendly and super helpful; held our bags after check out. The bar was quite loud when we checked in but it was a Friday evening; otherwise the bar area was abuzz with customers during breakfast time. The rooms were small but the bed was comfy, perfect for a one night stay, last minute booking. Parking was down a couple blocks over, walkable but an additional $55 for 24 hours. Also, no ramp for our baby stroller and the lift stored the bell hop luggage carrier.
