Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi – a concept by Hyatt

Great hotel in terms of quality of building and design. Staff were friendly at check in ( at 2.00am). The staff in the breakfast buffet were possibly the worst I have encountered at a 4 star hotel, let alone a 5 star pretender. We pre paid for the breakfast at check in on the recommendation of our friendly helpful guy, but when we got there boy o boy... No glasses for the juice, no one to greet us, no plates left at the buffet, had to ask twice with nothing more than a grunt in return, ordered tea...none arrived, wife ordered two coffees, one arrived! The buffet was nearing the end of the service say 10.15, but the selection was poor, the Italian chef was helpful and tried to pull together a really poor customer focused bunch of staff. Overall our stay in terms of staff was pretty much hit and miss, there was some very good, but overall too inconsistent to be satisfied. We ate at the restaurant that night too, as there is nothing...and I'm not kidding... Nothing around this hotel, and the food quality and service was good, not exceptional, particularly for the price point which was high. This is not a hotel for a family stay or even a holiday pass through if you want to leave the hotel, and you will want to as the only thing to do is go to the pool which is about 12 metered long and about 4 wide set into a concrete blowy balcony on the 19th floor, a real design fail, in terms of Middle East hotels. This is a conference hotel only. And it would do well for that .

We took a weekend trip from Dubai to Abu Dhabi - spending the first day in Al Ain and the second in Abu Dhabi. We wanted to spend the night somewhere that woud be more than just a bed, but would form part of the trip experience. Capital Gate Hyatt is not cheap - but actually reasonably priced compared to many other higher brand hotels, and is truly a spectacular experience. The rooms were comfortable, the staff responsive. The views from the hotel rooms amazing. There is only one restaurant - but with a good, varied menu and a pleasant terrace. The pool was closed the evening that we arrived, which was a shame - it was open the following morning, but we didn't have time to use it. The hotel was very accomodating to our kids.
