We travelled with our 7 month old for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved the area.
Staff were warm, welcoming and super helpful with every interaction (esp Neuza and the other dining room staff). The room was ample in size with a very nice cosy but quiet feel which was great.
The hotel grounds are lovely, especially when you wander outback past the pools and take a walk down to the beach along the boardwalk. The beach itself was just ideal, quiet, beautiful clean sand and clear water. The hotel also provides towels by the pool for you to use. The access to the beach is also very well considered as only hotel guests with a key card can exit through some gates to reach the beach. For a young family, this made a lot of sense. In terms of facilities, there's a nice small gym 24/7 free for use and for the more avid gym goers and more substantial gym with powerlifting equipment etc for 10 euros a day. The spa itself was really nice and is only 20 euros for 3 hours which I clufes access to a private pool, sauna, steam room, ice bucket and jacuzzi. This is free for anyone who books a massage too. Outside of this, there is a separate indoor heated pool which is free for all guests to use and very well sized.
The breakfast buffet was great for us as vegetarians and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Dinner was also good however ony a few nights, perhaps a more substantial vegetarian main dish would have been great. Aside from this, we enjoyed our meals in the hotel.

We recently stayed at VidaMar on a family vacation and it was truly paradise in Portugal! The entire staff was extremely welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful; they cared for us like friends. The breakfast buffet was expansive and included something for everyone. Housekeeping staff were kind, professional and ensured a spotless room each day. The pool is beautiful and there were plenty of lounge chairs. There is a long wooden boardwalk through nature areas for walking/running and bird watching. The beach is beautiful and family-friendly. The hotel is located in a quieter part of Albufeira but is a short taxi/Uber ride to ZooMarine, the Albufeira marina, and Old Town. For us, the location was ideal and the perfect spot to relax, soak up sun, and explore. We highly recommend VidaMar and hope to be back again one day soon!

This is definitely not a 5 star hotel, more like a 4 star.
Good points:
- Clean
- Large bedrooms
- Very good breakfast buffet, lots of choice
- Close to the beach, short walk with a wooded pathway
- Shop in the hotel and also another close by, it's a 5-10 minute walk away and much cheaper
- Good kids pools
- Lots of lovely kind staff
- Comfortable large bed
Bad points:
- Little to no entertainment, there is a man or woman who plays or sings piano in the reception / bar area in the evening and that is all.
- There is nowhere to sit outside in the evening with friends to enjoy a drink unless you're in the restaurant having the buffet dinner but you're given a set amount of time to stay.
- The swim up bar is closed, indefinitely which we were not advised of until we asked why it wasn't open.
- The food choice during the day is limited, there is only one restaurant / bar outside by the pool open between 10.30 and 1900 but the food choice is limited.
- No play park or play area outside for kids.
- Poor buffet in the evening, lots of seafood options but not much else and ordering drinks becomes a chore, you need to wait for someone to come with a piece of paper with your room number which needs signed each time you order a drink
- You have to stand in a queue to get a fried egg cooked for you in the morning rather than having these readily available like the scrambled egg
- 20euro fee for replacement towel card.
- Balcony was dirty and had smashed tiles on the floor
- Room

We had a fabulous time at this hotel with our family and children. The half board offer was great and the food in the main restaurant was pretty good. It's definitely worth visiting the other restaurants - Italian, Japanese and the independent seafood restaurant on the beach. We did get bored of the buffet restaurant after a couple of nights. The swimming pools are brilliant and the kids one was perfect for our young children. The beach access is literally 2 mins walk within the vacinity and the hotel catered to all our needs so much so we didn't leave during our stay (7 days). It would be nice if there was a kids room with some soft play or toys available. As there's nothing indoors for young children who can't participate in the kids club.

We were really impressed with the Vidamar, the staff were excellent and set this place apart from other hotels we stayed at I think. Kids loved the pools and the activities put on by the kids club. Food provided on half board basis was great although can get a bit monotonous after a few days however the other restaurant choices on site broke that up a bit. Beach near by is very good although you have to pay for the use of sun loungers and umbrellas separately i.e.: doesn't belong to the hotel. Overall an excellent experience for us, highly recommend the place, not strictly a 5 star but not far off.

Overall we had a lovely and relaxing stay at the Vidamar. There was a good selection of food available for breakfast and dinner. There was a different theme for dinner every evening during the six nights we stayed (Italian, Mediterranean, etc). The bed and the pillows were very comfortable and the shower was amazing. The beach was a short walk away. There were always plenty of sun loungers available at the pools and on the beach. The staff were very friendly. I would recommend this hotel to others; we visited mid May and this is an ideal time to visit as the weather was good (late 20s) but it was not too busy. It felt like a very inclusive hotel, ideal for families but also younger and older couples.
It's a lovely hotel but not quite a five star. There were some minor issues during our stay - our toilet light was not working, one of the hooks for towels was coming away from the wall, I asked for my room to be cleaned before 3pm as my daughter has a nap but this was not done. The following two points may have been an oversight on my part but I didn't recall reading anything about them: We stayed half board but had to pay for our drinks during dinner although this was the first time I had stayed half board anywhere so that may be standard. We had to pay 10 euros for two sun loungers on the beach.
